Associate Professor on the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio.
His main interests are advanced information systems that are part of a man-machine team that solve problems. This is motivated by the realization that, in practice, problems are almost always solved by a combination of actions by humans and machines.
Therefore, part of the problem to be solved uses appropriate techniques for the case at hand - databases, knowledge based systems, hypertexts, information retrieval, etc. The part of the problem to be solved by the human being uses hypermedia as a way to help accessing and using the stored knowledge. The hypermedia paradigm is also used to smoothly integrate formal knowledge (used by machines) and informal knowledge (used by humans). The most common examples of such applications are precisely web-based applications.
